Katie Mahan

Praised by Lang Lang as “a fabulous pianist full of emotion and originality”, American pianist Katie Mahan is considered one of the most outstanding talents of the international concert scene.
She possesses an unquestioned technical mastery combined with a kaleidoscopic palette of tone colors and has garnered attention worldwide for her innovative musical personality, poetic interpretations, and elegant stage presence.
A multi-faceted artist for whom music is an endless passion, Katie is at home in a broad repertoire and is particularly distinguished as an interpreter of the music of George Gershwin, Claude Debussy, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Katie has appeared in concert throughout the USA, Europe, Canada, the Middle East, Russia, and Japan, performing in such famous halls as the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Prinzregententheatre in Munich, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory in Moscow, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
She has collaborated with such celebrated conductors as Stéphane Denève, Jiří Bělohlávek, Marin Alsop, and Mikhail Golikov, and with orchestras including the Prague Philharmonia, St. Louis Symphony, Colorado Symphony, and Wiener Residenz Orchestra, among many others.
Katie’s extensive discography includes solo repertoire from Mozart to Bernstein. Her recording of the Complete Solo Piano Music of Leonard Bernstein was released by Deutsche Grammophon in 2018 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
Her recent albums for the Steinway & Sons label include the Mozart–Beethoven album “Heaven & Hell” (2025), “Once Upon a Time” featuring music by Mozart and Liszt (2022), and the Beethoven album “Appassionata” (2020).
The CD + DVD set “Classical Gershwin” (2019) was selected by Lufthansa, Swiss Airlines, and Austrian Airlines for inclusion in their in-flight entertainment programs worldwide.
In 2017 she recorded an all-Gershwin LP for the Berliner Meister Schallplatten label’s direct-to-disc format, and in 2024 she recorded “Mozart Live on Spirio” using Steinway’s groundbreaking Spirio player piano technology.
Her latest project, “Mozart in Schloss Eberstall”, a double-disc album which includes rarely played chamber arrangements of the Mozart Concerti K. 466 and K. 503 with the renowned Mozarteum Quartett, will be released in April 2026 by Steinway & Sons.
In addition to her CD releases, Katie is committed to finding new ways to bring classical music to younger audiences. She frequently presents lectures, masterclasses, and music outreach projects at universities, cultural schools, and other educational institutions.
In a recent collaboration with Colorado Public Radio, Katie produced a video blog series called “Mozart Snapshots”, in which she takes viewers on a journey through Mozart’s life in his hometown of Salzburg. The video series was accompanied by a recording of the complete piano sonatas and fantasies, which Katie recorded in the historic Schloss Mirabell.

In 2020, she was featured in the award-winning Deutsche Welle documentary “A World Without Beethoven”, where she discusses Beethoven’s influence on jazz alongside trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.
In 2019, she was selected for a collaboration with the Denver Art Museum to produce a special edition CD titled “Music in Monet’s Time” to accompany “Claude Monet: The Truth of Nature”, the largest exhibition of Monet artworks to come to the USA in over two decades. She has also appeared on PBS, NPR, ORF, Ö1 (Austria), and BR-Klassik (Germany), among others.
